STRING RAISE
The “string raise” goes back to the days of Dodge City and Doc Holliday when a player would lean forward with the infamous phrase, “ I’ll see your fifty…..” This was followed by a long pause while the player watched for a reaction and then added, “And I’ll raise you a hundred!”
It was a move calculated to read an opponent’s demeanour. On sensing any negative reaction the cowboy making the play would launch a powerful raise, thus “stringing” the events together to gain an advantage.
For this reason string raises are not allowed and following any objection the dealer will order the raiser to withdraw his bet and insist that he calls. You’d be surprised how often experienced players get away with it still in social games with inexperienced players. Online poker makes this kind of illegal move impossible and is another advantage the web based game has over a live hand.

GOING ALL-IN
Would- be new players are frequently puzzled about the timing for an all-in. Let’s go over the ground and make it clear. If you don’t have enough funding to cover bets or raises, you go all-in. This simply means you push all your remaining chips into the pot making it clear you are contesting that portion of the pot the value of your chips covers. Those players remaining active in the hand will now continue to make bets and those wagers will be taken into a side pot. When the game is concluded you will not share in the side pot but you remain eligible to win the main pot which was frozen at the time of your decision to go all-in. After the game you are then free to buy more chips but this has to be done between hands and is not permitted while a hand is in progress. Hence the purpose of the all-in rule.
